U16’s - Champions

Comberton’s U16 team took part in  a fabulous weekend of Netball at Condover Hall in Shropshire in October 2013.

The 2 day tournament saw them winning all of their 6 matches on the first day, (16-11, 8-7, 11-3, 16-4, 13-7 and 12-2) and by the end of Saturday they had a 44 goal difference!

Their excellent form continued on Sunday, only losing one match, which secured them a place in the final!

And what a nail biting final it was – against Abbey Flyers 3 (who thought they would win from the start) The final was very close for the first 5 minutes, then our girls pulled it out of the bag with a final score of 9-4.  We were all ecstatic!  Not only had Comberton not entered a competition like this before but they had won it!!

They were up against some tough opposition, most of whom had been to the tournament before. Abbey Flyers from Northampton came second last year and were determined to win it this year and Futureprint from St Albans had a regional player in their team.

But nothing deterred our girls, they were strong, confident and played each game determined to win.  There was excellent defence from Abi Whitfield, Megan Eaton, Becks Burton, Claire Shawcross and Alex Sheppard, fantastic centre court work by Megan Holden, Jazz Latham and Abbey Robertson. The shooters;  Leanne Cox and Valentina Coppolaro were on fire and Leanne remained confident when up against the regional player.

Must of course mention the mums! – Thanks to Claire Holden (Team Leader) for organising the weekend, Kim Cox (Team Physio!) who kept everyone supplied with snacks, encouragement and massages and Tracy Coppolaro (Team Coach) who shouted lots from the sideline!
